Persians are famous for their luxurious coats and even fame — but they require daily maintenance that most people underestimate.

Daily brushing is non-negotiable. Their long, silky coat tangles easily. Use a steel comb and a slicker brush. Start from the tips and work toward the skin, being gentle — Persian skin is sensitive. If you skip even two days, you be cutting mats out, which is stressful for both of you.

Bathing every 1-2 weeks. Persians don-t produce odor naturally, but their coat collects dust. Use a gentle, tearless cat shampoo. Their flat faces mean water easily gets in their eyes — use a washcloth to clean the face, never pour water directly.

Watch for respiratory issues. Their flat faces mean brachycephalic syndrome — snoring, noisy breathing, heat sensitivity. Keep them indoors, avoid hot weather, and watch for labored breathing.

Eye care is important. Tear stains are common with Persians due to their facial structure. Clean the area around their eyes daily with a damp cloth to prevent irritation and staining.

They are social lap cats. Despite looking high-maintenance, Persians are affectionate and bonded to their humans. They thrive on attention and will follow you around the house.
